Spelling and Mental Maths Homework: 6th October

Each Friday your child will bring home spellings and mental maths concepts to consolidate at home. These will relate to work that the children have covered in school.

Your child will be tested on this learning: the maths test will take place on the following Thursday and the spelling test on the following Friday.

This week’s spellings are homophones (words which sound the same but have a different spelling and meaning)

find

mind

behind

kind

climb

wild

because

when

In maths we have been learning to know the numbers that are 10 more and 10 less than any given number to 100. E.g. 10 more than 45 is 55, 10 less than 67 is 57.

Many thanks for your support

8th September 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to school. We hope you all had a lovely holiday and are looking forward to the new year in Year 2.

Over the next few weeks we will be reading Roald Dahl’s, George’s Marvellous Medicine. You may like to share some other stories written by the author with your child.

Topic

Next week we are hoping that we will be able to launch our topic, ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures’, Thursday afternoon (weather permitting). The launch will be a fun, messy experience. To protect your child’s uniform from being damaged in anyway, we would be grateful if you could send in a set of old clothes, for them to get changed into, from Monday 11th September. Please could you provide your child with a named carrier bag, for them to place their clothes into, once they have been worn.

In preparation for our launch, your child might like to find out some interesting facts about everyday materials and their uses.

                   Meet the teacher

There will be a, Meet the Teacher meeting on Monday 11th September at 2.45. This will give you the opportunity to find out about the year 2 curriculum.

Library Books

Your child has been given a library book that they can change independently. We are keen to foster a love of reading and hope this will develop their enjoyment of reading for pleasure.

Thank you for your help and support.
