Health and Well Being

At Templemoor Infant and Nursery School, we aim to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for our whole school community (children, staff, parents and carers), and recognise how important mental health and emotional wellbeing is to our lives in just the same way as physical health.

Some of the strategies we use to support children's health and well being are.....

The Templemoor Mile: All classes from Reception to Year 2 run/ walk a mile at least three times each week on our purpose built all weather running track - getting lots of Vitamin D and regular exercise.

Music - every child learns to play an instrument in Key Stage 1.

Mindfulness - We recognise the importance of equipping the children with the skills they need to cope with the pressures that modern day life can bring as they grow older and that embedding these at a young age will stand them in good stead as they move through the school and into their adult life. To support this, the introduction of mindfulness has had a very positive impact.

We are proud to be a 'My Happy Mind' school.

The programme runs across school from Nursery to Year 2 and is taught weekly. It fits in really well with our Growth Mindset work and ensures directed time is regularly devoted to health and mental well being.

We believe in teaching the science and then embedding habits around mental wellbeing in a fun and positive way. Rather than focussing on the ‘issues’ or challenges overtly we take a preventative approach by giving children the understanding and tools to cope when times get hard. Research shows that preventative approaches are both more accessible for children and are more likely to lead to lasting change.
