How will we learn?
Our Year 1 classrooms have been carefully designed to ensure that children are able to develop their independence whilst also having the opportunity to meet the learning objectives as set out in the national curriculum. The timetable is designed to ensure their is a mixture of whole class inputs, small group inputs, learning in books and time spent learning independently using the resources around them- learning does not need to only happen whilst sat at a desk! Below are some examples of photos taken by children themselves in the first few weeks of Year 1.
Children are taught there are a variety of ways in which they are able to share their knowledge.
Skills such as cutting and preparing food aren't just limited to D & T lessons as children independently chop and prepare food on a daily basis.
'Blue Screens' are used to allow children to record videos about what they have been learning. As well as developing ICT skills, this also allows children to practise their oral presentation skills.
There are a wide variety of maths games available in the classroom to ensure the children are able to constantly practise basic skills. In this 'shut the box' game children are practising the instant recall of number bonds within 10.
What will we learn?
Curriculum cards around the room help children to know what they will be learning in each curriculum area and knowledge organisers ensure that everyone is aware of the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary that will be taught.
